A good mattress is one of the most important purchases you will make, especially if you have back or joint pain. It’s important to thoroughly research different kinds of mattresses to find one that you're compatible with. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to find a quality mattress. The first, and perhaps easiest, thing to consider is size. Couples tend to prefer a queen or even king size mattress. If you are buying for a child, a double bed may be preferable to a twin, because they won’t grow out of it.
Another consideration is the type of mattress. For a lightweight person, a standard mattress is probably sufficient, but a heavier person or a person with joint pain will probably be more comfortable on a pillow top mattress. It is often thought that a firm mattress is better for people with bad backs, but that is often not the case.
More expensive mattresses offer a lot of bells and whistles that may add to a comfortable night’s sleep for some people. Adjustable beds allow for movement and elevation under the head and knees, which can alleviate back pain. Memory foam mattresses conform to the body and provide extra support without pressure on joints. For couples with different pain levels, beds that adjust from side to side can be especially helpful for achieving a good night’s sleep.
Comfort is subjective, so the best thing to do when shopping for a mattress is to take your time and try a lot of different kinds. Shop at a store that specializes in mattresses to get the best information and help from sales people. Ask questions and try at least one of each mattress type. Spend at least 10 to 15 minutes lying on each mattress to really get a sense of whether it’s truly comfortable. Labels: Blogging, Home and Garden |
