Some babies are born premature. There may be so many factors why premature births occur but still they deserve to be born and must be given undivided attention. Premature babies have body organs that are still not functioning very well, especially their lungs. Their lungs are not yet mature so oxygen flow is impaired. There is a need for constant monitoring in cases like this, and to do this, hospital staff attach a probe called a pulse ox to the baby’s finger.
The oximeters measure oxygen saturation, heart rate and pulse which are vital to assessing the stability of the baby’s condition. This probe is helpful in managing premature babies. Through the detection of the oxygen saturation in the baby’s lungs, the medical team can accurately provide the necessary amount of oxygen needed in order for the baby’s lungs to function well. The device is simple, small and very convenient to use, and yet its impact is tremendous since it can help save the baby’s life. Labels: Blogging, Health |
